Simple product

A simple product is one listing for one buyable item: one price, one stock line, one set of details. There are no separate size or grade rows under it.

Variable product (the parent listing)

A variable product is a parent listing that groups related buyable items under one product name and description. The parent represents the product family—for example, one anchor model in many weights, or one cable type in many lengths. Buyers do not purchase the parent itself. They always pick a specific variation (a single row with its own price, stock, and lead time).

Variation

A variation is one buyable SKU: a specific combination of the specifications that define separate items (for example diameter and length, or chain size and grade). Each variation has its own Price, Stock, and Lead Time. If two rows repeat the same combination of those defining specifications, the form will flag them—each variation must be unique.

What defines a variation vs what is shared

  • Defines a variation: The fields marked SKU in the listing form (see Learn more under the checklist). These split one product family into separate purchasable lines.
  • Shared across all variations: Fields marked Shared apply once to the whole family—every variation inherits the same value (for example material or product type).
  • Extra detail per variation: Fields marked Variant add information per row but do not create a separate SKU by themselves.

Product family, subcategory, and the form

You start by choosing Product family and Subcategory. That choice decides which specifications appear and which are required for your type of equipment. After a subcategory is selected, the rest of the form unlocks.

Listing strength

The form shows how complete your listing is based on how much you choose to provide. More complete listings rank better in search results on the platform. Use the checklist to turn on sections you can fill; leave off only what truly does not apply.
